Greece Tour 2012

The World Music Program at Brockton School conducted a successful tour of Greece and Turkey in July, 2012!

The World Music Program was once again selected to represent Canada at the International Society for Music Education (ISME) conference in Thessaloniki, Greece and the ensuing tour took the ensembles to various parts of Greece, as well as to the Greek Islands and Kusadasi, Turkey.

I just wanted to thank you so much for giving my son such an incredible life experience that will last a lifetime. I know how much extra planning and work goes into a trip like this, and I wanted you to know that he learned so much, loved all that he saw, has incredible memories from the trip, enjoyed being a rock star at the concerts, and has broadened his life view as a result. Thank you for being so committed to impacting these young people’s lives in such a positive way. He had a fantastic experience.

The title of our Greece stage show was "Care of the World: Creation in Community," and our students thrilled audiences wherever they performed. From the beautiful Thessaloniki Concert Hall to various outdoor venues in Nea Moudania, Ancient Olympia and Marathon, our students gave audiences an electric stage show, bringing communities of young and old together with messages of community, international-mindedness and friendship.

My spouse and I wish to relay to you our great joy in having the students from your school visit us in Nea Makri yesterday where they shared their wonderful music with our community. As Canadians and prior residents of North Delta, BC, who have now retired in Nea Makri, we were proud to see Canadians visit Greece and our community and send the strong message of friendship and community. The wonderful music played by this  group of young musicians, brought joy to all who attended, especially the young and very old residents of the community. A special congratulation goes to the music teachers who not only produced a great music group but were well respected by the students and became one with the members of the band. We trust the group enjoyed their stay in Greece and will share their positive experie4nces upon their return to Vancouver.

The World Music Program, considered Brockton School's flagship music program, is recognized as one of the most innovative music programs in the country. Our ensembles have performed in China and Greece, and at various locations throughout the North Shore and Vancouver, such as the Jazz Cellar, Presentation House, the Kay Meek Centre, the NSCU Centre for the Performing Arts and McLean Park.

Stay tuned for more exciting educational adventures of the World Music Program!
